Our Comprehensive Outdoor Design Process

Step 1: Survey Members

Keeping up with membership usage is essential to continue enhancing the experience. It’s essential to take on board the needs and requirements of your members.

We suggest performing a survey as the first course of action. Garnishing information first-hand is the best way to make informed decisions driven by data. Too many times we see projects that are started via assumptions and flash-in-the-pan ideas that aren’t rooted in real-world information.

We’re here to provide an experience for members and what better way to do that than to ask them what they want? Remember to ask open-ended questions, and allow them to have their say and feedback on anything.

If we start our questions with these words, we will get better information instead of a yes or no response.

  3. What would you like to see from our outdoor space?
  4. Where do you see the club in 10 years?

There are plenty of other things you can ask, be creative and drill down into what you need to know. 

Remember there are a variety of outdoor spaces that can be enhanced be it poolside, bar side or court side. 

Step 2: Plan & Develop

With your data, it’s time to plan and develop your space. New furniture is one of the fastest and most effective ways of enhancing outdoor space and meeting members’ needs. Expectations for high-end country clubs are high and it is essential to nail the furniture purchases.

What are the roadblocks, where is the friction, and what are the complaints? These are the problems we need to solve. If you’re upgrading an unused space, why hasn’t it been used in the past? 

Once you have these mapped out, you need a drawing or map of your area.

Think about developing at least 4 different ideas. This gives you the chance to get ideas down on paper, be it good or bad before iterating and refining. 

Think about limitations such as budget, space and execution only once you’ve come up with a concept. These inhibitions can create artificial barriers to creativity and limit the scope. 

Don’t forget to consider additional spaces for upgrades. Pool areas are popular with Members, Dining spaces keep people happy and racket sports are taking off around the world. 

Dining spaces must always look beautiful, and be able to withstand the rigors of heavy use. Stylish furniture doesn’t have to be weak or high maintenance.

Step 3: Design & Build

A consistent extension of the aesthetic your club provides is essential to the design.

 If you’re upgrading furniture, shade systems or building new poolside spaces, you’ll need to consider what’s come before. Furniture and shade need to be an investment of capital that returns over time.

Design is important. If you are buying furniture for the sake of buying new furniture, you’re missing the point of what it is to provide for your members. You want to provide an experience, and providing the appropriate furniture in the appropriate space is core to making sure that experience is fulfilling. Create a wow factor to increase membership. 

Focus on the character of your space as much as the functionality of the product. There are plenty of style options available and finding the correct furniture for your space will only serve to enhance the space.
