Make the most of your outdoor space this winter

Don't Pack Up Your Outdoor Living Area Just Yet - Tips to get the most out of it all Winter Long.

The seasons are starting to change, and winter is right around the corner. During this time many people start to think about packing up their outdoor gear to spend more time indoors during the cooler season. But, it doesn't have to be that way. You can still enjoy your outdoor living space during the winter; there are so many benefits for both your mental and physical health. So, instead of packing it all away, here are some tips on how to transform your patio space this winter.

Umbrellas aren't just for the summer.

We tend to think of outdoor patio umbrellas only being used during summer. We use them to keep the sun out of our eyes on hot sunny days or to cool off in the shade. We think of smaller hand umbrellas as being used to keep the rain off us as we come and go. However, your outdoor umbrella can also provide shelter from the cold and rain.

Our umbrellas are 100 per cent waterproof, they are built for high wind performance and are designed to stand up to the elements. Therefore, instead of needing to pack them away for the winter, make use of them year-round to enjoy every season.

SU4 outdoor umbrellas can be tilted into any position, allowing you to angle your umbrella to protect yourself from the winter wind and rain while still getting to enjoy the fresh air. Another way to take full advantage of your outdoor living space is by using umbrella systems that allow you to attach multiple umbrellas to one pole. This allows you to create a space that is protected from wind or rain on multiple sides with minimal interference on the ground.

Light up the space.

Just because we have less sunlight during the winter months doesn't mean you need to stay indoors. Once you've created a patio area you are going to want to enjoy it!

One way to enhance your space and create a warm and cozy feel is to add additional lighting to your outdoor area with the use of LED lighting. Some umbrellas come with LED lighting built in, but if your umbrella did not come with lighting you can purchase lights that can attach to the underside of it.

Also look to other lighting options like string lights, or lanterns to create a warm, welcoming glow. Once your area is well lit you’ll be able to enjoy extended hours under your umbrella all winter long. You can entertain family and friends, read a book, or just sit and relax after a long day at work.

Storage and Maintenance

If you do choose to pack up your summer gear make sure you give it a good clean before packing it away. Make sure your gear is dry, packing it away when damp will lead to mould and damage! You want it to be in good condition when you bring it out in late spring. For umbrella canopies use a warm soapy wash to ensure no plant matter eats through the waterproofing.

How you store your outdoor furniture and outdoor equipment is also important, including outdoor covers, protection covers and garden storage sheds.

Focus on comfort.

There is more to comfort than being dry and warm. Look for ways to dress up your outdoor space for the winter months. Start by choosing comfortable seating. When it's a little cold outside you want to sit on a soft surface with fabric that provides you plenty of padding and warmth. Sitting on hard surfaces is sure to make you feel even colder.

Once you choose comfortable seating look for other ways to style and add comfort to your space. Outdoor throw pillows are an effective way to dress up the space and choose colours and designs that complement the exterior of your home. Don't forget to add a few blankets as well, that way you can cover up and stay warm while enjoying the brisk fresh air.

Winter doesn't mean you have to head indoors.

If you love being outdoors, then there is no reason to pack up your patio for the coming months. With a few simple additions, you can transform your outdoor living space into a place that you’ll enjoy all year long.
